ok it's time to rebuild the c4 i've been running and starting to wonder if i'll be better off swapping the c4 for a gm trans i.e. t400 or glide.my current set up makes around 380-/+ to the tires running a 26 inch dr and 3.27's out back weight is around 3000 . i plan on building a bottom end for her this year and turning the boost up so should be around 550-600 .so was wondering what would you do. rebuild the c4 ?swap in a t400 or go straight to the glide and not have to worry about the trans for along time?

Uh, do a C4 that's capable of handling the power.

The guys that run in the NMRA EFI Renegade class have to run a C4, and they run mid 8s. Check out Performance Automatic. I believe they have a Super Comp C4 with a lifetime warranty or guarantee. You don't need a Turbo 400 or a 'Glide.

The C4 can be made as lightweight as a Powerglide, the only purpose for running only 2 gears, is the numberically lower 2.48 First gear, which will kill torque on launch if you had some 500+ cid monster engine.

Look into what RPM you want to launch at, what RPM you want to cross the finish line at, figure out what gear ratios--in the trans, and in the rear axle--and choose a trans from there.

Also, if you intend that 302 to last at 550hp...you may be taking up some of your trans budget for an aftermarket block.  that may affect what trans you end up affording, too.
Just because you can't do it...doesn't mean its impossible

thanks michael and gtomustang i talk to afew other shops today and will be sticking with the c4.and gtostang i'm a 3.8 v6 i'd never dream of pushing a 5.0 over 550 we all know to well the blocks like to crack.the 3.8's crank like to walk just over 600 but with the new 4 bolt caps there starting to make i hope to be able to push alittle more.
