Does anyone know of a fix or replacement for a leaking water bypass tube?  My '96 cobra has over 200k miles and now has a leak where the tubes come together near the bleeder plug.  My local dealer says this part is obsolete and has no recommendations. Any suggestions are welcome.

i have had horrible problems with the gasket under the bleeder screw...  its normally a 14MM nylon engine oil drain plug gasket that will replace it..

looks like this might be what you are talking about..

8555

Water Pump By-Pass Tube
4.6L; DOHC; Horseshoe shaped--includes sensors; and 3 o'rings (391533-S100)

Part Number: F3LY8555A
Description: Water Pump By-Pass Tube
looks like its about 150 bucks new...
i don't know if its still available..

warning... there are lots of different parts listed for basic part number 8555... have the dealer look for one at 147 bucks and change..

if you are in a location.. where you cannot find one of these...

pick up new gasket seals for it..

properly clean it..     i have used brazing rod and care to build up other water pipes..

this requires getting rid of any rust.. usually by using navel jelly..  or other rust eating non coating acid.. that does not eat all the metal up...

it also requires some measurements before you start doing anything so you don't change the dimensions ..

i would sure change the seal on the bleeder screw first... cost about a buck..  buy at the local autoparts store..

Thanks for the help.  You are right it is the horseshoe shaped tube. I will check for with the dealer again and the gasket on the fill plug has been a problem.
