I'm putting a 347 stroker into my 66 Mustang. I've installed the Heidt's Mustang II front suspension...and I don't know what size/type oil pan I can fit in there. Since the engine mounts aren't in yet, I can't drop fit to see...plus I don't want to fit the engine without an oil pan protecting it. I've seen this mod in many articles, but can't find what I need (the oil pan type). I was thinking a rear sump 7 quart pan would fit, but don't want to drop $200-$300 without knowing for sure. Anyone have any words of wisdom?

Hey Guy
I can't give you anything on the oil pan. Howeve, I couldn't help thinking that you didn't memtion anything about a WINDAGE TRAY!
I suggest that you buy one for your application. It keeps the oil off the crankshaft giving you more hp. Maybe you knew that already, I was trying to be helpful.
Take care GOD BLESS

I'd go find a used late model 302 pan (the double sump item). Should be able to find a used one cheap, then test fit with that. If that works, then you can just shop for a deeper sump item that's similar. I would only tack in the mounts until you get that issue worked out. Could be much expensive if you ahve to get a custom pan. Lotsa people do this - might check with the Mustangs Plus guys and see what they use - probably a Canton offering.

Have you tried calling Heidts for a recommendation? Gary Heidt has sold hundreds of these setups for classic Mustangs and I'm sure from 289 to 5.0 to 4.6 to big-block, he's got a pan size and brand to recommend.
Sometimes it's best to go straight to the horses mouth? No? ![]()
