Forgive me for not having the exact details in which I am referring to. I was dissapointed, horrified and genuinely put off by the convertible '66 (I think it was) that had the Miata running gear. If I recall it was the April issue? I looked to see if this was an April Fools deal, but didnt see anything saying such. Please tell me it was? If this is the real deal, then I really question the way that this hobby is going, at least part of it. I have never seen anthing this bad, even the Cobra replica I saw, at Sears point for the 25th Anniversary for the winning Le Mans team, that had a mid '80's Chebby Porvette interior, engine and some cheap looking chrome 3 spoke mags. Anyway, I looked around on this site for some reference to this car, and found nothing. Not even in the "Featured Cars" section. That also gives me hope that this was not real. Anyone have any further input.

Don't know about that car, but if that upsets you don't look at the May 2007 issue of Popular Hotrodding where some folks are putting an LS1 motor into a Mustang.

The car is real. It is an odd sight, to say the least. I give them an "A" for effort. Is it what I would get or do to a Mustang? No. Thats just my opinion.

It's not something I would personally, do, but I can still appreciate the work that has gone into it. There were millions of 1964 1/2-66 Mustangs made and a lot of those cars are still around. If the Mustang was an absolute basket case and he decided to put the car on the road using Miata running gear - all the power to the owner, it's better than having the remains rotting away in a junkyard. I think there is room in this hobby to accommodate everybody and as a car enthusiast, it's always interesting to see unique, one off projects like this. I'm not partial to Chevy engines in Ford Street Rods either, if I was going to build on I'd definitely go with a 302 crate motor, but again I've seen some really nice ones with bowtie motors - at the end of the day variety is the spice of life and I think there's room in this hobby for all kinds of different people, tastes, styles and preferences.

You hit the nail on the head. It is better than them rotting away in a junkyard...or being crushed. I would rather see a mustang with a geo running gear before I see her cruched. I also agree that if building a street rod, it would be all Ford, all the way.

Yeeaaah Geo, with there 60 inches and about 12 HP. I guess they served their purpose.

First of all guys, it was an actual Miata with the Miata running gear and it was reskinned with reproduction sheetmetal. It was a feature car for the April issue in 2007. The car is retrofitted by a company called M1Stang (www.m1stang.com).
I think it is an interesting concept and more people should open their eyes to different things. For the longest time I would use the term "Chebby" as well, and look down my nose at anything without a Blue Oval on it. But you know what, GM, Mopar, and yes, even some of the import companies have built a hell of a car at one time.
Look at the lines of a Lamborghini, the styling of an old Masarati. Duesnbergs, ZL1 Camaros, etc. Open your eyes and realize there's more than Fords out there. Sure, you don't have to own one (and I'll only own Fords) but that doesn't mean you have to talk badly about the car(s)...
I love my '66 Mustang, but have you ever been given a ride in an Acura NSX? Talk about great handling. Or the all-wheel drive power of an Audi S5?
It's the 21st century guys, look at all the cars on the road with a more open mind and you'll go through life a happier person...

That is why I said I preferred the new KR to the older one. I really like the vintage look with todays technology...The best of both worlds. Also, this is the reason my Fairlane will be fuel infected w/overdrive, disc brakes, and Ac. And updated front and rear suspension. It won't be factory, but it will be worth much more, to me, like that. What is the use of any car that you cannot drive and be comfortable in?

Hope my comments weren't being taken out of context. I think we're just having a little fun with the whole thing. I have no problem with the "super auto hacking" that occurs when brands are merged. The PHR article about the Chevy motor in the Mustang is pure hot rodding. Ford builds this great, light little car called a Mustang and they built so many they remain relatively cheap with parts easy to find. Try thinking that way about a current F body, um that's no longer in production ah-hum. In the same breath, Ford builds this "mod motor" that is way too big, heavy and very expensive to hop up. Over across the way, here comes GM with this great little pushrod motor that makes power out the wazoo with very little effort. So you want to go fast on the cheap, it's a Mustang with either a BBF or maybe an LS1. People call the Mustang the "55 Chevy of the today". I would say a closer relative would be "1932 Ford".
At the Falcon convention a few years back, I saw a 62 or 63 that was being grafted to a Mustang chassis. Looked good. I little weird, but good. I think we'll see a lot more of this kind of stuff as people with the money and/or time go about stretching the edges of the hot rod world. I like it. If I had the resources, I'd like to meld a 63 Galaxy fastback with a 2003/04 Merc Marauder.
I like to see these car integration ideas come to fruition - but I reserve the right to make fun of it LOL. And a "Miatastang" is just ripe for it.
I saw the PERFECT use for a Scion yesterday - it was made up like a toaster with two big pieces of toast sticking out of the roof and the words "Mrs. Bairds Bakery" on the side. Similar to this: http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/autos/second_life/

Falcon67, no harm, no foul. Sure we can poke some fun, but Cobra97 is who I was really aiming my answer at.
There was a guy on the Fordfe.com forum the other day all up in arms because he saw an early T-bird (not a little bird, but like a '59) at a car audio shop getting a ton of amps and speakers. He flipped out about it. People just need to chill out. There's enough stock numbers matching cars hidden away and in musuems that if a few get restomodded for better safety, performance, and comfort, so what!
I'm so sick of the collectibility buzz word. I mean, my kid's Pop Tart boxes say "collectible" on them with special art work. Geez! They're cars. Drive them and enjoy them. Put them on the road where people can see them, appreciate them, and maybe even join our hobby (strength in numbers!!!)...

I read that too. I guess it just hits some the wrong way. When I used to frequent the show circuit around here, I tried very hard to think something positive about every car. There were many I said internally "What the hey?" but outwardly said things like "nice use of blue split loom and orange tie wraps". It's all cars, it's all good. I'm pretty "blue blood" - but we're picking up an '82 Jeep CJ7 in the next week or so. It should be as fun as the Mustang convertible was. If it works out, we'll park the pickups and use the Jeep for daily transport.
Have a great weekend too - we're racing Saturday and I'm testing out a 750DP tonight I built with Proform, Quickfuel and Holley scraps.
