I know its been done alot before but I'm looking for info on putting a 5.0L and AOD into a 66 coupe. Any links or info would be appreciated. No doubt it has been an article in M&F's or MM. If any one had details on issues and where I could get them that would be a great help.
Cheers Bart

Bart. I put a 5.0 from ford racing in my 65 fastback. I went with carb instead of fuel injection because of application and race preference. However, it's not a difficult swap but a bit more detail if you go with fuel injection. Contact K.A.R. Auto Group Inc. @ 1-800-341-5949. I have met with these guys when I make my trip to Carisle Ford Nationals. They have experience with what you want to do and are a great resource in all aspects of the conversion. They have done it enough times to get it right and can save you money and time. Good luck

I am about to start on my 67 fairlane. I am seriously considering a fuel injection system from massfloefi.com. I am also considering an overdrive unit from Gear Vendors. It is slightly more money up front, but you are starting with new parts with a warranty and almost stock look. Anyone else?

We have the Mass-Flo system on our Factory Five Cobra project and we're very happy with it. Easy install, easy wiring, and no emissions stuff to prune out with resistors like using a stock harness...
As for the Gear-Vendors, it's a nice, solid unit that will take all the power you throw at it. A Fairlane should not be a problem, but some cars the tunnel size and overall wheelbase make it a tight fit. It's a cool feature to be able to split gears, plus you can keep that cool four-speed sound and feel.
The other option is a modern five-speed too, about the same price overall, but a bit more work involved. They both have their merits...

Bart, I have done two of this swaps before, one in a 69 fastback and my current ride 67 convertible. I opted carburated on all them simply because I don't want to fool with electrical wirings of EFI conversion. I don't say its difficult, I just have few extra Holley carburators and aluminum intake manifolds. One of the issues of the engine swap in an early model Mustangs is your oil pan and oil pickup, transmission crossmember, shifter linkage, driveshaft length, and header clearances to mention a few. For EFI of course the electronic issues you have to deal with.
