I have a 72 Mach 1 with a 351C. I am looking to put Edelbrock Cleveland Heads and a RPM Air-Gap Intake on it. My question is; Does anyone know if the RPM Air-Gap will fit under the Ram Air setup? Current intake is a Holley Street Dominator with measurments of 3.68 in front and 5.02 in rear. Edelbrock is 4.48 and 5.56. Thanks and sorry for the long post. John

Sounds like you need an inch. Strange - the 289 Air Gap I put on a 302 came out at the same air cleaner mount height as the Performer it replaced. On the 351C, the Performer is 3.50 in front, so they went up nearly an inch in pad height. There might be enough flex in the gasket to take up the extra height. If you have a spacer under the carb for PCV hookup, you can eliminate that and pick up the vacuum off the carb or drill and tap the plenum.

I'm not uber familiar with the 351C Air-Gap, but you might be able to mill 3/8 to 1/2-inch off the carb pad too for some extra clearance...

Thanks Guys,
I guess one of the things I need to find out is how much room is under there to play with. I'm very new to restoration. Do any of you have an idea as to what kind of manifold I may want to look at? Or should I just stay with the Holley? I was going with the Air Gap becuase they are matched to the Edelbrock heads.

What's the plan for the car?
FWIW - the air gap has a pretty good rep on the other engines. I used one here on a 302 with good results on the drag strip. You can review the posts over at 351cleveland.net, but not very many have installed or run the air gap on a 351C yet. Both 351Cs here run Funnelweb intakes. At 7" of carb pad height, those are for power and not for restoration efforts.
I would expect good results all around from the air gap in any event. The Performer is basically a 2V intake that will mount a 4 bbl carb - plain and simple. For 4V applications, the Torker is a popular intake for performance and the old Holley strip dominator being well thought of (good performance, high resale). The Weiand 2V single plane intake is also a good intake - it likes a performance converter and a bit more than stock gearing.
