i want to ask a question a very good friend asked me... can a 289 2v be stroked out to 331ci. i would like to think so. but before i do, i wish to hear what fellow M&F readers, builders and bench racers know. looking for stroker kit, pistons, aluminum heads(about 10:1),cam,intake,carb and more detailed ideas for 350+ hp. a beefed up C4 and 3.55 or 3.73 gears will be involved. this is from a 66 mustang(c code). looking for parts combination to get as close to this... will be daily driven, bowing deep, V.Hui Yu

Some people get a little nervous using the 289 block for 302 based strokers due to the shorter cylinder walls and longer stroke of the strokers. The combination pulls the piston out of the bottom of the block farther than some people like. That being said, I see people running 289 blocks with 306-331ci displacement all the time.
Personally, I would start with a late-model roller block. They are plentiful, strokers fit better, and you can easily drop in a roller cam without special tie-bar lifters or other machine work the 289 would need to be able to use the roller cam...

the 306 was in conversation with this friend, he's eyeing an edelbrock top end kit. i think the claimed dyno of 360+hp on a 302 got the attention of this combo.i will tell him about the roller 302. one deep _/\_ V.H.Y

after more brainstorming there will be a 302 roller block on duty with alot of restmod goodies. the top end will be from edelbrock, plus the above trans and axle combo. soon as it's complete, my friend my dyno to see how close it is to a new 400hp estimate?? will keep all posted. bowing deep V.H.Y

This is an update on the build up, the 302 is ready. it's up to 347ci. a port and more job, 2.02/1.60 valves a mid rise dual intake, 276dg roller cam, high vol oil pump and all the needed extras to make that 400+ hp. now the C4 is on the works. will be done soon... stay tuned.. _/\_ V.H.Y
