Hey Guys,

Completed rebuild of the ventilation system in the 68 (no ac).  Cannot get water to circulate through the heater core.  Any Suggestions?

Did you reuse the vacuum valve in the heater hose between the engine and firewall? Maybe it is stuck closed? Did you check its functionality with a vacuum pump?

You got me there - did not find a vacuum valve.  Hooked the hose directly through the firewall to the core. Any more info on this vacuum valve that obviously needs to be installed?

Thanks

It's a 4 Seasons part - don't be suckered by the $70 part on ePay.

The valve is installed in the inlet hose to the heater core, but with the hose going straight to the core without this valve you SHOULD be getting heat. Does the blower motor work? Are you getting air out of the floor vents? Maybe you have a jammed or inop blend door and it isn't allowing air through the heater core...

Agreed Marc - everything works. I think the vacuum valve is simply a block valve when A/C is running.  No A/C on this car.   new motor, new plenum.  Getting air everywhere.  The inlet hose gets hot,  outlet hose stays cool.  Too much backpressure on water pump suction? Heater core plugged?  possibly.  Installed new heater core while I had it apart.  There were two OD plugs when the core arrived.  I did not bother the check if there were any additional plugs other than the 2 I removed.  may get the DA award on this one.

Glad you found the problem. No need to get that trophy engraved just yet, I'm sure we've all jumped to conclusions and bought a part we didn't need or installed something while another sister part sat on the workbench (like putting the wheels on before the brake caliper!)...

Good luck with the fix this weekend. I'll be in the garage myself working on the Cobra's interior, installing the replacement windshield, and starting a list of sheetmetal needed for the boy's '68 coupe we just got...

Later...

No Mike, the gold '66 coupe in my reader's ride section is my car. I built that from '99 to '04 when I worked on another magazine. It's a replica of the '66 I drove in high school (my first car) except this one has A/C and a little more power under the hood. It's my weekend time machine so to speak.

If you read the blog section (does anyone?) we just picked up a '68 coupe for my 15 year old son Kyle as his first car. It's going to be a father/son project to hopefully bring us a little closer together. We just got it two weeks ago and it's stripped down to just the glass, wiring, and suspension right now. We need to get it in the garage and on stands and start taking the rest of it apart and evaluate the sheetmetal so we can start the series on it.

Have a good weekend...
