Have a tired stock six with three on the tree in my 1957 F100. I want to swap in a Big 300 (carbureted) and a four speed AOD trans.

Will the engine drop in utilizing the existing engine mounts? Will the tranny require huge amounts of fab work? Also want to put a Mustang II front end in it.

Can use some sage advice. Looking for decent mileage due to crazy gas costs...hence the AOD. Might consider a 5 speed stick also.

Thanks.

I don't see why you are concerned about the engine mounts when you say your wanting to put a Mustang II frontend under the truck. When the Mustang II is installed you measure and weld in the mounts for the engine at that time. The Mustang II setup does not come with the mount stands pre-welded for just this purpose, so you can install whatever engine you want...

The AOD, in stock form, takes a lot of power to turn and thus is not that efficient. If you're cool with rowing your own I would put a T-5 five-speed behind the six. Matter of fact, you might find a 300/five-speed combo complete in salvage yard from a '90s F-150...

Mark...

Thanks for the info. Hadn't fully decided on the Mustang II...thought if the big six would just drop in I might want to go that route just to save money.

Good idea on the T5/300 combo from a wrecking yard.

Thanks again.
