As soon as I get done with a friend's 65 fastback(289 with aluminum heads, 2 fours, and a lot of cam!) I will begin building my fairlane. It will be a driver. I am adding power disc brakes and air conditioning. Also seriously interested in Gear Vendors overdrive unit and a massflo-efi system. The car will be a small block car with a C-4. Is it worth my time to put a roller cam in my 289, or just buy a 87-92 302? Also is a 90 5.0 in a truck suitable for roller cam? (I have one) Thanks P.S. I don't want to adapt the car to a fuel infected 5.0 mustang w/ AOD.

I answered somewhat to your reply in the other post you were in, but we have the Mass-Flo on our Cobra replica and we're very happy with it. It is an easy install with just a six wire hook up. The harness comes already setup for no emissions/EGR so it's not like having to mess with a stock harness and solder in resistors...
I converted to a roller cam in the 289 in my '66 Mustang simply for the fact there are a larger selection of cams, they idle better while making more power, and you don't have to worry about the ZDDP problem and what oil or additive package you are using.
You can install a standard base-circle roller cam (like the FRPP E303) with link-bar (also called tie-bar) lifters and no machine work to the block. It's a little pricier than the retrofit kits that require drilling and tapping the lifter valley, but you can get more rpm out of them as well.
The '66-'67 'Lanes are some of my favorite '60s Fords. Please share project updates and photos with us!
Thanks...

I appreciate your reply and i am sure you will be seeing more of me on this site. I really like to do my research on a subject before jumping in with both feet.

Thanks for your opinion. What kind of horsepower/torque and fuel mileage numbers does the cobra put out? I assume it is a little more aggressive than i want to go with my fairlane. As soon as i can figure out the easiest way, i will post some picks of my 'lane. Thanks again.

I just found this forum, but we will be posting some information on the projects we are involved with. One is a 66 light weight with a 427 hi riser, a 66 GTA with a 428 CJ and 67 convert with a 289. The first 2 are done... anyone need the 67 project?
