Okay how's this. My buddy offered his services and his Expedition and Trailer to help take my Mustang down to the Paint Shop, which was a few hours drive. On the way down there, we narrowly avoided being hit by other drivers six times and all but one of them were driving Toyotas. The best ones were a lady in a minivan almost cut us off on the Southern Tier Expwy in New York on the onramp, pulling right out in front of us, another guy in a Camry almost T-boned us at an intersection when we stopped off to get gas and this last one's a classic. On the PA Turnpike - we come up to a toll plaza. There's a Toyota at the front, a Jeep behind and then us. The Toyota driver brakes just before he gets to the booth, puts the car in reverse and slams into the Jeep behind which narrowly misses bumping into us. I'm telling you, every time somebody does something really dumb on the open road these days I bet you that most of the time they will be driving a Toyota. So be warned, next time you're out on the road in your vintage Ford, give those driving Toyotas are very wide berth - they most likely in a coma, talking on a cell phone or actually out to get you - don't be fooled by the metallic beige paint and mild mannered appearance - these folks are the true terror of the road...

An interesting observation. As a driver that tows regularly (race car weekly) I would offer a different view - it's not the Toyotas, it's the trailer. Idiot drivers are the insects and a truck with a trailer is the bright white light shining into the muggy summer night. The marginal handlers of automobiles just flock to the immediate vicinity of a truck pulling a trailer, then proceed to do all kinds of stupid flocking things.
This last weekend, we fetched a Jeep out of Fort Worth. After we picked up the Jeep, we ran out I-30 to Arlington, then down 360 for some shopping then back out I-20 west towards home. Just told the passengers "enjoy the ride, don't look in the mirrors". Put 'er in the middle lane, set the cruise on 65 and just drive. The truck weighs 5800, maybe 6000 with four of us in it. The steel trailer and the Jeep would be about 5300 more. 11,000 lbs beats a wind up toy car any day. They just bounce right off.

I have an 07 F-450 4 door, 4 wheel drive and I periodically pull a 32 foot mobile command center for work. Whenever people get stupid around me, I accidently turn on my emergency lights, and/or accidently bump my siren and air horn. It works every time. They either make me plenty of room, or freeze in their tracks and I get away.

What I wouldn't give for some emergency lights or an air horn. Better yet, some device that disables their car and prevents them from ever driving again!

keep in mind that the Toyota(or any foreign car) drivers are probably high on the aroma of burning rice from their exhaust and do not appriciate american muscle! my question is: when towing a trailer, no matter what speed you are going people will pass you then slow down?!? i tow an open trailer with a motorhome and when going to the track i am usually running 60/65 in the 55 mph zones. people will pass like there is no tomarrow just to slow back to 55 mph. can anyone explain this because its not helping my road rage!

Worst one I ever was involved with was going thru Spokane WA at rush hour pulling a 25' cutty crusier boat that was 12' tall on the trailer.
A dizzy blond in a Celica came barrel azz down the on ramp with a cell phone in one ear and a bad attitude under her right heal. Well, she wanted to get into the flow of traffic and started honking, cussing and flipping off the ignorant driver that wouldn't let her in! I had the passenger open the window and yell back at her that the BOAT ON THE TRAILER wasn't going to let her in and she had better back off.
I think some people just are too stupid for words and we should follow the George Carlin advice. Everyone is given a suction dart gun with the darts having a little flag that says "STUPID" and when a cop sees 3 flags you get a ticket for being stupid.

I think another option is to have retractable rams that come out of the car and push other drivers toward the shoulder if they get too close. Inertia takes on a whole new meanign when a speeding car clips another vehicle on the freeway. Saw an incident while on a tour bus a couple of years ago. Speeding lady in a Jaguar is weaving in and out of traffic. A semi-truck is changing lanes on the freeway. Doesn't see her and the Jaguar clips the back of the truck trailer. Jag goes into a spin and slams into the concrete guardrail. Lady walks away. Our bus driver stops to help. She is screaming and shouting that it was the truck driver's fault even as her daughter is being loaded into the ambulance with whiplash. I know she was probably in shock but even still our jaws dropped!!!
I just hope the county threw the book at her - felt sorry for the kid!

there are terrable drivers all over the place...
last week on way back from palm springs.. a line of cars gets on behind a big rig... i can see what is happening.. i slow down and move to the left... one little car not only flys around the other cars behind the big rig.. but out into the number 2 lane where i am... i just barely spot her in the sliding door window... thats how far she was back... and i am in a big ford van... i ended up in the car pool lane to avoid her... she got within maybe a few inches of me..
and trailers are things that just are not there to most people... decades ago... at a drag strip here in socal... the croud was being taunted by someone who was high... to avoid anymore problems.. i got the guy with my arm... sort of wrapped him in... and walked him away ... he was talking a mile a minute... i just kept walking with him... across the road we were walking beside was a lady letting her dog out for a break.. before i could do anything he spun out of my grasp and tryed to run across the road... but ran right into the side of a car.... he was quick.. before i could grab him.. he dashed around the back of the car... and tripped over the trailer hitch... he went under the trailer... rolled up under the trailer.. went under the axle.. and out the back.. he ended up with cuts only on the knees.. but went to the hospital anyway.. if it had been any other car beside a fiat topolino with a small block he would have been smashed..
so even on foot ... at 5 miles and hour ... trailers are dangerous.. to the stupid...

yes the stupid never stop, two examples for me. My friends and I race at JenningsGP in north FL. Well we tow a 25' toy haualer with 4 bikes in the back totaling about 50,000 not including the truck and trailer, and I will be darned if some lady puting on make-up at 75mph on I75 doesn't swerve right into our lane, if it wasn't a F-350 towing it I don't think she would have seen it at all.
To make the worst out of everything here is one to make all laugh. I am a cop on a AFB. I am a boat cop to boot. I tow a 34' ACB behind a F-350 powerstroke. Mind you both of these huge vehicles say POLICE on the side, front and back. Oh yeah must be a huge target for the stupid because when we go to take the boat to the Marina for its maintaince we always have one or two that fly by us then do the oh crap and slow way down so that we end up having to pass them. Yep Here's your sign!!!

I love a parade. The Tx DPS likes to cruize about 55 or 60 in the left lane so they can cross over the median to go after dastardly speeders. If there is any traffic at all, you can see the block DPS car leading a parade of yahoos, putting along behind in the right (clear) lane. Our big truck is a red F-150, but I think it's equipped with the optional Autolite Cloaking Device.

Folks towing anything are definite "stupid magnets". We tow a boat and I don't know how many times some idiot has pulled out right in front of us when we're doing 55 or 60 down US301... of course there's no one behind us for miles every time! What's up with these nimrods? Someday we're going to end up with a rather large hood ornament! I'll have to pay closer attention next time to what they're driving..LOL! JB, I like the George Carlin idea.. a rocket launcher would be good too..
