My question is has anyone put a T-5 in a Mustang II. My uncle and I are wanting to do this before I go to School. We are wondering if there is anything we should no before doing this. Its a 302 4-speed already but the 4-speed is crap so if you can help I would appreicate it.

Thanks for that link but he used the belhousing from the 4-speed. We want to know if and how a T-5 belhousing would work for the Stang II.

Not sure of all of the things that have to be modified to make it work, but it can be done.
Here is an example of a Mustang II that it has been done to. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/858154 __________________ Motor Safe!

I used the bell housing, clutch and transmission from an '84 Mustang GT. If you use the MII bell housing, I understand that you need to shorten the input shaft of the tranny. My setup requires that you cut the tunnel, as the shifter moves forward about 2 inches. This also requires a mod to the centre console. Presently, I am using the console without the shifter bezel, until I figure out something new (stainless, plastic or ???). The net result is that the shifter is a little too far forward, and I want to change it to one that curves farther back. Hope this is helpful.

hi,i installed a t-5 in a 76 cobra II using the 5 speed bellhousing and stock exhaust manifolds, i,m not sure if you can get a header that will clear the clutch fork. you will have to open the shifter hole in the floor a little bit but other than that you shoudn't have any major issues. some modification to the tranny crossmember my be required also. good luck.

Oh ok that doesn't sound to bad. I'm guessing you had get your driveshaft re-lengthed. But just found some headers on summit hopefully they will work. But thanks for the info

sorry i been gone so long, busy schedule! actually i did use the stock length driveshaft but i changed to a longer yoke i had lying around,i think it was out of an older mustang but i'm not sure(i've parted out too many cars!)if i remember correctly the mustang II v-8 driveshaft will be about 1" too short because of the depth of the stock mustang II bellhousing and i used the longer yoke to compensate for the length.i hope you have picked a good tranny(example:early 90's world class)because mine was from a 84 1/2 turbo capri(non-world class, but i wanted the short first gear). it was a blast to drive even though the motor didn't make much hp. then i ended up ripping teeth off the imput and counter shafts! too many 6000 rpm holeshots and power shifts but hey, drive'em to break'em and build'em to take it! i soon replaced it with a toploader 4 speed and life was good again, but that was when gas was cheap and with todays prices, you will need that 5th gear.good luck
