Got a '66 coupe and I want your recomendations on the correct cam, valves, computer, tq converter and diff gears to run to make 275+ lb/ft of tourque and gets as close to 20 mpg's, or even exceed that. Engine, fuel injection, tranny, wiring harness and computer are all from a '92 LX.
In my research and experience with the carb engine thats in it now I thought a set of 3.25 gears, lockup converter would do well. As for the electronic injection and cam/valves I am still looking for info.

Resto...
The stock 5.0 HO was good for 225 horse (I think 215 in '92 due to a rating change) and 300 lb/ft of torque completely stock. These engines with a manual trans easily get 21-23 mpg, so why modify/touch it if you already have the fuel economy you want and the torque you want?
you mention converter, so you have an AOD. Stick with a lockup converter to maintain mpg (I do not have a lockup converter and get only about 16-18 mpg with my 347 stroker and 3.73 gears).
Put a set of 3.25s in it (that's what I have in my '66), drop the 5.0/AOD combo in it and enjoy! The second you start adding heads, cam, and other goodies, the car will be more fun, but mpg will drop.

I feel like a dink thare Mark
Was asking on behave of myself and my brother who also has a '66 (now he thinks he wants to sell it and get a 64-65 Falcon). We were both misinformed on the factory ratings of the 5.0 engine. We were told by a self proclaimed "guy who knows" it was 200HP and 240 lb/ft tourque. Little embarrassed about the post now that we have the actual specs. Thats what we get for not checking out all info before believing it. After I found the actual ratings last night, after reading falcon67s reply, I gave my brother the actual factual ratings so now he's good with a straight bolt in swap. He wants the same setup in his '70 F100. No heads or cam swaps, just like you said, drop it in and go!
Didnt mean to double post a question but I thought the first didnt post cause i had a server drop me right as i posted.
Probly gonna drop the stock 5.0/AOD setup in his two and my coupe. Still planning on a 331 setup with the appropriate mods for my drop top Galaxie project and my '77 F150 from my other post (Fuel Injection on a 331 Stroker) in the general fourm.
Appreciate the great info. Really cool for us to be able to get advice direct from the guys we've come to trust from the years of great tech articles
