Does anyone know if the 351c has another spot to install a sending unit for the water temp gauge. I want to leave the original one in that is under the thermostat housing and add a manual to use to calibrate the original using resistors. I could just take out the original and replace it with the new mechanical gauge to check the original gauge but I want to be able to see what the original is reading in comparison to the new mechanical gauge.
Thanks for you help Steve

Thats the only spot I know of. you might be able to find a water outlet that has a port - you could fab up a temp setup with that to check. The only other place would be the drain ports at the bottom of the cylinders but I don't think you'd get a good temp reading there. Another thought - get a laser heat gun (Sears sells a small model for around $50) and check it with that.

Steve, unlike windsor engines water goes thru the intake manifold, but clevelands doesn't. To me the only way to do this is the install a tee fitting into the original sender port and install the mechanical gauge on top and the electrical gauge on the side. Make sure the fittng is not too long, otherwise it will hit the distributor. I assumed this is only temporary. Good luck.

You can calibrate the original style with a little work. What I propose is this: Pull your sender out of the engine and re-attach factory wire. Next ground the body of the sensor to the block. Then put your sensor and manual gauge in a sturdy "can" of water. Next heat the water with a small propane torch. When it gets around normal operating temp, compare the two. I have done this on tractor trailer engines before. That was before I bought an infrared temp gun. Like I said, it is more work, but it is darn near free.
