I recently bought a 66 convertible that has all original parts including the orginal 2V and manifold. Wanting more power I am going to start upgrading. This car is just a toy for me and I would like it to go fast and I don't intend to use it as a daily driver. I am trying to decide between Edelbrock Performer RPM and a RPM Air gap. Also, I am trying to decide between the 4 Barrel Performer series carb (600 CFM Electric choke) and the Thunder series (650 Electric choke. I am not going to change the cam or heads now, but will put on headers (as soon as i figure out which ones give the most horsepower and don't cost a ton) and flowmasters. Anyone have some advice?

Guess it might help if we knew what you had for an engine and transmission.

Assuming that its a 289, the 600cfm carb is a good choice. Your moving up a step with the rpm air gap and you may want to stick with the performer or performer air gap with your engine. If you intend on putting in some 2.02 valve heads and a pretty gnarly cam then you might want to go with the rpm series and the 650cfm. I personally have a 302 with Edelbrock 2.02 heads and a performer manifold and I still use the 600 cfm and it runs great. The issue is to match your components and your stock engine needs only about 500cfm, unless you use some power adders or different heads you wont be happy with the larger carb and manifold with a power band higher then your engine can use. Another issue with the air gap manifold is hood clearance. Dang you got a long resume there shipfitter..lol.

Hey mechanicalguy48,
Thanks! (or I am sorry?) the resume is kind of a leftover from some of the other sites that I haunt such as http://www.mercurycougar.net, where it functions as some sort of pedigree.
Happy Holidays!
