It may be physically possible, but there are more than a butt-load of reasons why not to do it. The fact that is it isn't legal, practical, efficient, etc. I could go on and on....That is if you plan on it being a street car. I would bet it would cost much more in the long run anyway.

You can put a 460 in there if you want - but if you are in an EPA non-attainment area or anywhere where they do smog inspection, you can forget getting it street legal.

Ditto...
A lot of guys run the S197 body and a small-block in drag race circles, but these new cars have so much tech in them; multiplex harnesses, smart junction boxes, etc. you'd almost have to rewire the car with a simple street rod harness and put aftermarket gauges in it, then you'd have no ABS or other electronic features.
I'd suggest rebuilding the 4.0 SOHC or getting a reman, and then putting a few goodies on the 4.0. Several companies make superchargers for them, or a small nitrous kit. There's even a nice turbo kit just for the V-6 S197 from Turbonetics on the market.
