2006 Mustang & P255 50 ZR17

Bought some new tires for my Mustang online. I got them last night and these tires are wide. I am going to mount them on stock 5 spoke Mustang rims (2006 Mustang). The tires are Ryken Raptors (directional) and are P255 50 ZR17. I think these are like 10 inches wide, but are the same height as stock tires (according to the tire size calculator as to not throw off my speedometer).
I am sure they will fit the rear alright. But I am a little nervous about the fronts. Anyone ever go this big on the front of their Mustang? Stock suspension. My car is not a GT and I am replacing the 16's that were on it.
Guess I will find out this weekend if there any issues!!!!!
Feedback? Comments? helpful hints?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve, that tire is only a half inch wider than the stock 17-inch tire Ford uses (245/45R17) so I think you'll be fine. You may have to monitor and adjust your tire pressure so the center doesn't wear. Many times a big tire like this at the "standard" 32 psi will be over inflated on a smaller rim and will require less pressure to have the most tread on the ground and the best wear pattern.
Our Factory Five has 315/35R17 on the back (two inches wider than your tires listed!) and I can only run about 24-26 psi of air. A good way to test this is to roll/drive the car over some wet pavement (something smooth like a driveway) and then onto dry pavement and look at the tread pattern. That'll tell you if you need to add or remove air from the tires.
Also, I found a great site for checking tire sizes from OE to aftermarket, it even gives speedometer correction factors. Check out this link and input the tire sizes and click on "compare"...

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply and the helpful info. Tires and rims were installed today. No worries. Yes!
I had them mount just the one wheel and then we tried it on the front and the rear, put the car on the ground with full weight and turned it full travel in both directions (fronts only, of course). Seems to clear pretty good all around. So all 4 wheels and tires were installed, weights on the inside. Those wheels look sharp on my car. Much better than the stock 16 inchers! Changes the whole appearance of the car.
I will monitor my tire pressures and the tread pattern and adjust accordingly.
Thanks again!
Yes, it DID help!

Okay Mark! I can do that. I need to wash the car anyway. Hopefully I won't get frost bite! Spring is trying to make an appearance up here......aaahhhh. To live in Florida. Got any leads on shipfitting jobs in the shipbuilding industry or structural steel fitting jobs?

Looks good Steve! Thanks for posting...
Any feedback on the Ryken's yet? Never used them but have heard the name before...

Hi Mark,
Those Ryken Raptor's (my tires) seem to be pretty good. They handle well and ride well. Doesn't seem to to take a whole lot of effort to break them loose on takeoff. I have not used them in the rain or anything and I don't usually drive the Mustang in inclement weather.
Last night I just bought a set of AR Torq Thrust II's (16 x 7 & 16 x 8) for my Cougar. As well as some new tires: Hankook Ventus HRII H405 (225/55R16 & 245/50ZR16). Guess they will come in next week sometime.
If anyone is looking for GOOD tire prices and FREE UPS shipping, then you need to go to Discount Tire Direct online. Huge selection and excellent prices. All 4 of my tires came to $330 and the shipping was free. That was where I bought the Rykens as well.
I think I did well on the rims as well. Brand new in the box, includes lug nuts, center cap and valve stem: $705 shipped. Better price than I could find at the stores around here.
