tires and wheels

I just subscribed and need info about wheels and tire sizes for my 67 mustang coup.  I have seen a lot of different sizes but want something that will fit and allow for rotation of tires when the need service.  I currently have a 15"craigar rim with 2 1/8"
back space p215/60r15 tire on the back. This causes the tire to hit the rear fender.  I would like a 16"X8" rim but need to know the backspacing.  I also want the old style taller tire with raised white lettering but don't know what size.  Any suggestions on what has worked for you?  

I am not sure about the 67 but on a 65 you need to be real careful using a 16 inch wheel.  it tends to rub against the upper control arm.  I used a 16x8 with a 4.5 inch back space and it worked but I had to grind a bit of the upper control arm.  I have since replaced the 16 inch in front with a 15 x 7.  on a 65 it fits much better.  the 16 x 8 fits nice in back though.  from what I have seen a 17 inch fits pretty good also.  I would suggest if you want a 16 inch wheel to try it on the front before you mount the tire and preferably before you buy.

the other thing is that tire sizes are not all uniform.  if you look at the same size tire in a falken and a toyo they should be the same, but if you read the specs they aren't always.

this info is direct from there website and as you can see the outside diameter is 25 for the toyo and 24.9 for the falken.  sometimes the difference can be even more.  so you should make sure the tire you are buying has the specifications you are looking for.
