My husband and I just purchased a 68 mustang coupe, with a 200 six cylinder, 3 speed manual transmission, 4 bolt hubs. Would like to put a 302 V8 in. Can it be done without changing the whole suspension?

Yes, the engine swap can be done without upgrading your brakes and suspension, but I wouldn't recommend it. The engine is heavier and makes more power (accelerate faster, more top speed, etc.) so do you want to rely on those tiny 9-inch drum brakes from the six-cylinder to stop the car? At the VERY least I would put V-8 coil springs up front and upgrade the front brakes. If it is a very mild 302 you could get away with the stock rear, but any real power and you'll want to upgrade the rearend as well...
Most likely, once you start looking at it, you'll see the front suspension will probably need to be rebuilt anyway (bushings, coil perches, shocks, etc.). Even if you have to do it in stages, you should do it right. Be safe, enjoy the car, and welcome to the world of classic Mustangs!

Annabelle 2 asked about an engine swap. While I don't know much about the swap idea, I have a rebuilt 302V, endlebrock intake & 600(?) holly in a Mustang that had a 6cyl. I would like to make her a swap as long as the freight charges don't kill any deal. I don't know if this is the correct forum for this request. If you can pass along it would be appreciated. Ian
