Hi to all From Germany, This my first post. I have a 68 Ford Mustang 2Dr with a six cyl. I would like to replace my steering gear box and was wondering if I needed the steerin shaft with it or not when ordering. I have been doing some research on the steering gear box and have come to understand that the 68 mustangs shaft for the steering is two peaces (has to do with a safety modification). Also what is recommended as good company to order parts from (the States to an Army Post Office (APO)).
Thanks in advance. Raul

I also have a '68 Mustang and I got my steering box from National Parts Depot. The steering shaft should be fine. NPD does have an international shipping policy. You can find them online @ www.nationalpartsdepot.com. If you get a new stock box I would recommend getting a new steering coupler also as the teeth on the original are probably worn out. NPD also carries rack & pinion steering conversions if you decide to go that route. I am sure that there are other companies out there. I live in Florida so NPD is the most convenient for me and I have always been satisfied with the selection and service.
I let my mind wander... It never came back.

Correct...
It was the '67 Mustang where the long shaft to short shaft box changover happened during the production year. All '68 Mustangs had the collapsible safety column with short box (and rubber rag joint).
NPD is a good choice but since you are shipping to a military APO I'm sure there are other vendors who can ship as well. I would go through the steering column and inspect all bearings, the rubber joint, horn contacts, etc. and order everything at once to save on shipping cost and time and then you'll have nice, tight steering once again.

When I was in Germany, American muscle cars received a great deal of attention. Usually more than very expensive sports cars.
