Hi,

My 2007 has bubbly spots on the windshield and grille edges of the hood. I suspect rust forming due to water getting under the paint. Has anyone had this issue? I have been told I can go to Ford with this issue. If I cannot get anywhere there I am going to get it repainted. Does anyone know of a reputable place to get a paint job in Tampa FL area?

Thanks!
Kristi

That sounds very much like contamination under the paint.  I would get in touch with Ford customer service or the district manager first before seeing a dealer, unless your dealer has been servicing the car regularly.  This should not be happening on a 2 year old car, as you can imagine.  If the spots are caused by rust forming in chip and ding damage (rock hits, etc) then you are likely on your own.  Be prepared - it costs a BUNCH of money to have a car painted properly.  Materials alone will be in the $500~$1000 range, maybe more depending on local EPA restrictions.

Hey Kristi, nice to see you posting again, although it's a shame it is a problem with your vert...

The hood on the S197 is aluminum IIRC, so it is unlikely it is rust, but most likely some form of paint issue. I know you bought the car second hand, so is it possible the hood was repainted at one point or perhaps even replaced?

I've not heard of many S197 paint issues.

Stop by Brandon Ford and talk to their body shop mgr. His name escapes me but I have it at the office. They can determine if it is original paint with a defect or if it was painted sometime in the past.

As for cost, every shop is a bit different, but expect a per-panel charge of somewhere in the $250-$300 range, so with blending into the fenders and front fascia it could be in the $500-$750 range if out of your own pocket...

Good luck with it...

HTH...
