I hope someone can help with my problem. I had a fuse that keeps blowing as soon as I put it in.  For my ford people, #8cavity number on the fuse function panel. It's a 10 amp that runs mirror, radio, courtesy lamp, clock, dome, map lamp ect. My speedo and seats are also not working. My chiltons book does not indicate that those items work on that same fuse. I am sure it does because I had this simalar problem about 2 years ago with the same fuse but different wire. All of the items listed worked when that fuse was good.
I took my drivers side kick panel off and think I found the problem. I disconnected harnesses and plugged in the fuse. if it sparked and sounded like it was going to blow, I removed it. Reconnected harness and moved to the next one.  I identified the harness when disconnected the fuse does not blow.  It's right under the hood release lever. Tested wires with ohm meter. All but one wire showed current.  Do I need to find out where the wire not showing current leads to? It's a brown wire with no addition colors on it.  If I reading Chiltons correctly, It may be the wire to the clock.(I offically don't know how to read an electrical diagram).

I've seen dome lamp's short against the roof skin, try removing it and let it hang free from the roof and see if the fuse still goes.

Also, the cigar lighter/power port is usually on the radio fuse, ensure there's no change, earings, gum wrappers, etc. in the lighter/power port causing a dead short (seen this many times over the years as well).

Lastly, check your owner's manual to ensure it is the proper fuse rating. Someone may have shoved a 10amp in there in a pinch, but the circuit requires a 25amp or something (though the fuse most likley wouldn't pop instantly if this was the issue).

HTH...
