fuse number 1 is the power to the back up light switch on a manual trans car and to the manual position switch on the side of an automatic car...   it has a purple and orange wire from the fuse and into the switch...

pink and black from the switch to the back up lights..

but which transmission do you have ?????  and motor???

automatic or manual...

if you have a manual transmission, it threads into the transmission and has 2 wires plugged into it..

the manual position range sensor bolts to the left side of the transmission..  the shift shaft goes through it..

seems... you have to install it with the transmission in neutral...  and using an really expensive tool to align it..

Alignment Gauge, TR Sensor motorcraft part number 307-261
Tool Number: 307-261
Your Price (USD): $118.57
Past Tool Number: T93P-70010-A
Applications: 4R44E/4R55E, 4R70W, A4LD, A4LDE, AODE

hopefully there will be an article on installing them...    since this switch also signals the transmission shift computer.. adjustment is probably critical..      the flat rate book calls for 94 to 2002 model years as 1.1 hours of flat rate time to remove, install and adjust it..

parts of this switch send voltages to the ecm depending on what gear you select...    when the switches go bad... they can cause erratic shifting from the transmission..
