I'm in the process of putting together a basket case 1970 Mach 1. It's a 351C with 4 speed, no A/C, no tach. When I got it, it had a big aftermarket coil mounted on the fender well. I took that off and now have a stock coil mounted on the engine in it's correct factory location. The problum is when they ran the coil wires to the fender they cut the original coil wire harness end off and ran extra wire to the coil. I ordered a new coil wiring harness but had nowhere to plug it into. (they had cut the plug off the wiring harness at the firewall) Soooo I went to the wrecking yard got the plug off an old Ford and soldered it to the wires they had cut. Now everything looks good but no power to the coil. I have read that there should be a resistance wire in line (pink?)to drop the voltage from 12 volts to about 6.5 volts to the coil. I checked the resistance of the new coil harness but there is no added resistance to that wire. Someone said that there is a pink wire under the dash that should plug into a black wire for those cars that don't have a Tach. I pulled my dash out and searched for a loose pink wire, Nothing. HELP

did you check it all the way back to the ignition switch... perhaps they cut the wire there.. to send it to the inner fender mounted coil..
here is a picture of the ignition switch... http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/173_0310_mustang_ignition_switches/photo_04.html you can see the pink wire in the photo...
here are the 3 different ballast resistor wires that AZ should be able to get..
Duralast / Ballast Resistor Part Number: F799 Application: With 2 wire connector 49" in length (Resistance wire) ~~~~~~~~~~ Duralast / Ballast Resistor Part Number: F796 Application: 61" in length With 2 wire connector ~~~~~~~~~~ Duralast / Ballast Resistor Part Number: F797 Application: With 3 wire connector
one last thing... i take it that you are going to install an electronic ignition system.. so you might want to verify what kind of voltage you will need at the ignition module..
you might also check that the bypass circuit from the starter relay is still working..

Nice reply Wayne! Thanks...
Didn't get a chance to look through the forums, as I had a super busy weekend...

Just a thought... If you are going to do a lot of work yourself, call your local parts store, and see if they can get you a Chiltons or a Haynes manual for your Mustang. They have a good wiring diagram in the back, plus a lot of other good info. Sounds like you are going to have some other issues with electrical problems as well....so invest in a good test light, and good voltmeter you'll be glad you did.

The pink wire should be under the dash, running from the ignition switch into the harness. Verify the wiring to the solenoid also, it may be wired to provide crank power to the coil.

Thanks for all the help. After countless hours of troubleshooting I found the problum. It was me. Agggg. The plug end that I got at the wrecking yard and soldered into my wiring harness had all the right colors but were not in the correct order. So my 12 volts was there except it was going to the oil sending unit. One more trip to the "yard" also known as the "happiest place on Earth" according to my Wife, I found the right plug. Installed it and My Baby came to life for the first time. (Full restoration) Thanks everyone.
