I'm Looking for a shop that can blast an entire car in or near Colorado(I live in the NW portion of the state) and a ballpark figure for what they charge. I can transport easy enough just not sure where to look.

I'm not a big fan of media blasting. You'll have media coming out of every crack and frame hole for months (great when you're trying to paint!)...

I prefer chemical stripping. Simply apply the paint stripper to the surface, let it bubble, and scrape it off.

If you really want to get a full body clean then chemically dipping it is another option, but you have to have a bare chassis (no wiring, etc.) and it will usually take out all seam sealer, requiring you to reseal the whole car...

HTH...

I know what you mean about media coming out of every crack and hole. My old job we sand blasted the gearboxes before I had to rebuild them. It get's every where even places you think are sealed up well!

The reason I was asking about blasting is the 66 coupe I have has about 7 layers of paint and primer. My girlfriend and I along with my best friend used stripper for a lot of the paint. It worked well for most of it until the bottom 3 layers, they are really stubborn. I will check into the dipping as the car is stripped of everything now.

I need to replace both rear quarters due to previous accidents and most of the seam sealer is already removed through out the car. Their is very little rust but some body filler. Thanks for the reply!

First of all, I am NOT a body man, but if you have the car dipped, won't it leave bare metal in places you can't get to to paint? ...causing future rust issues? Again just curious, because I am a mechanic-not a body man.

Read an article a while back about it: once dipped they dip it again in a neutralizing solution to get ride of the acid then dip it in an "e-coat" solution that (if I understood it correctly) is suppose to be a type of electrically applied primer.  Meaning it goes everywhere the acid went and covers the whole body.

I recently learned of "soda blasting" and found that it is sodium bicarbonate.

Questions:
1 - Its suppose to protect the metal for up to 6 weeks after basting.  What's the downside?  What do you have to wash the soda off with before painting and what does it do to the paint?
2 - Isn't that the same stuff that's in Draino?
