So I bought this engine; got a great deal  on a low milage 302 with 351 heads, cam etc.... It's been sitting in a forgotten project for 10 years. I took the heads off to have them reworked with larger valves etc. I looked at the top of the pistons and found the following..      6001 P std  9.5   Speed Pro  H T- 16   stamped in the top. searched speed pro pistons on line found nothing.

I'm just curious about them. one would believe 9.5 means 9.5:1 compression.

Anyone out there know anything about this subject ?

just to help.    can you describe the piston top design or post a photo of it to photobucket   its free.. then paste the 4th link here..

products change over the years as do part numbers..   i was on the federal mogul web site last night looking for your piston number..  i did not look at every different possible piston as i did not know if its a flat top.. a dished, or a domed piston..  there is a link to ask for assistance...

Those numbers are like a dot-matrix printing correct?

They are usually info like production run or shift, bore size, etc. The actual pn for a Speed Pro small-block Ford piston is usually like L2482 (289/302), or LW2638F (347 stroker).

HTH...

sorry it took so long to reply. Been concentrating on the job search. the numbers are stamped in the pistons not "dot" engraved. my buddy called them "eye brow" pistons because they have valve relief indentations in them.

I'll work on getting a photo on here.
