Do small rotors on big wheels look bad?

I'm doing the drum to disc brake conversion on the front end of my '66 mustang coupe. I have 14 inch mustang rally wheels on there now, but someday I might want to go up to 17inch hot rod tires that are found on modern mustangs. I've read that some people think not having rotors that fill up the wheel diameter looks ugly. I don't want to upgrade the rotors again later...how do you think 14 inch rotors would look on 17 inch wheels? Not enough cash to upgrade wheels and brakes right now. I saw some really small rotors on a tricked out truck with 22" that looked bad and flat out unsafe. I'm not going to that extreme. The goal is 14inch rotors on 17 inch wheels.

I would think it is a matter of personal taste. as long as it stops. but the bigger brakes would make it stop shorter. If it 's just looks your concerned with. use a wheel that you can't see through. As for my project I plan on staying with 15" wheels and steel wheels. It's what I want for my car. not what others want to see. Good luck with your ride

Joe, for starters you will most likely need an 18-inch wheel for a 14-inch rotor. 13-inch rotors is about the max with a 17-inch wheel from everything I've ever built, worked on, or looked at. Sure, there might be that "perfect" combination of wheel and caliper that allows a 14-inch rotor, but you'll drive yourself crazy trying to get that combo.
Stay with a tried and true brake kit from one of the well known companies and they will always have info as to wheel fitment for their kits. I have three cars with 13-inch front brakes. Two are running 17-inch wheels (and it just clears) and the third will be running 18-inch wheels. For a 17-inch wheel I would say no smaller than an 11-inch rotor, but preferably a 12-inch, and if you can budget it, then the 13-inch kit.
HTH... Mark .
