Is there a newer fuel injected motor that will fit the transmission of a 1965 mustang with the 200 motor? Or some sort of adaptor?

uh......   NOPE...

fuel injected 2.3 from a mustang or ranger pickup is the best fit for fuel injected ..  87 to 92.. or so... along with the 4 speed overdrive transmission...

you can swap on a 74 to 81 C4 from behind a 2.3 motor for an exact fit..  for the transmission..

the 70/71 up uses a different spline count than the 69 and earlier ford transmissions.. this is just to make your life easier..

please.. DO NOT dispose of your existing transmission.. as you will probably need to swap the manual lever in the side of the case to allow the shifter to work properly with the early mustang linkage..

i don't know about the engine oil pan shapes to fit this swap...

they made 200 ford motors up through 81 or 82.. the last few years with a different bell housing bolt pattern..

the duraspark electronic ignition can be directly swapped on..  it can also be used to drive .. a GM TBI fuel injection system..  a single barrel TBI..  and yes it will work..  with your existing cast iron head...

you might want to swap to a later head to get the hardened seats..  use care in selecting..   motors from the mid to late 70's will slip right in..

there is still the issue of the single barrel carb ability..

if you want a V8.. 87 to 92 5.0 EFI and HO efi motors can and have been dropped in..   with tons of power..

there are hundreds of options..

you might also want to check out some of the other mustang magazines on this site.. like mustangsmonthly...

as for the newest stuff to swap in..  the modular motors.. this requires modifications to the suspension to clear the extra wide engines..

the 5.0 will fit easily.. as dimensions have NOT changed.

the 5.8 W / 351W is an option. but its a little tight for header clearance..  its easier if you need cubic inches.. to build a 5.0 with a stroker crank..  to come up with a 331... or a 347...

the 2.3 was also available in a straight turbo charged version in 86.. and a turbo charged and intercooled version in 87 thunderbirds.. called turbo coupes...   man what a HOT rod..  the 5 speed versions in the Tbird would run at the governed speed at 143... yep with a 4 banger..  the automatic versions were limited to 120.. to avoid exploding the slush box..

the conventional 2.3 motors with PORT fuel injection were NOT nearly as powerful.. but very drivable..  if properly installed..   you can get decent fuel economy...

describe your needs better...  i drop in here daily looking for new posts...

everything looks easy to me.. as i have been working on cars for 30 years..

you might want to check out this article from another of the 4 mustang magazines on this site..

http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techarticles/mump_1102_how_to_improve_six_cylinder_mustang_performance/viewall.html

describe your issues with the current motor.. sometimes.... they might seem to be major..

but might actually be easy to fix..
