I HAVE A 68 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE I AM RESTORING IT WAS A 6 CLY CAR AUTOMATIC, WHEN I GOT IT IT HAD A FACTORY REBUILT 302 ENG. MY PROBLEM IS WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE IT WANTS TO TAKE OFF WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PETAL IT TAKES ALL MY STRENGTH ON THE BRAKES TO NOT HAVE IT TAKE OFF. ANY COMMENTS ARE APPRIECIATED.

i hate to burst your bubble.. but it seems by your post above..

that you have TWO problems...

first the engine is IDLING TOO FAST...

second... you need to work on the BRAKES..

my ranchero does this once in a while..  the fast idle cam hangs up and prevent the throttle from closing..

i did run into one car with an INCORRECT torque converter...  that had such a LOW stall speed..  i could not get the engine to idle at the specified 600RPM..  in drive.. without it just really being out of control..

you could have vacuum leaks...

you could have a sticking choke or fast idle..

you could just have an incorrect carb adjustment ....

please describe your exact set up...     what type of ignition..    what type of carb....

can you take some digital pictures of the engine so i can see what you are dealing with.. you can post them at photobucket for free.. and then paste the link here so everybody can see ..

once we figure out why its idling fast..   i will help you with solutions.. i have worked on cars for 30 years.. so i can really help you..
