Looking for a supplier for new empty trac lok case. Ordered from Currie but runout on bare case is so far out of tolerance, it cannot be used/junk. Currie not returning emails....Does anyone know of another manufacturer?Thanks,HTP
bare...?? just toss the extra parts on the shelf..Ford Racing M-4204-F28A - Ford Racing 9" Trac-Loki see some new complete units on ebay also..http://www.nitro-gear.com/positractions/there are probably more out there.. a few questions... how did you set up the case for run out..when you pressed the side bearings on.. is there any chance some of the case pealed and wedged under the side bearing inner race.. throwing off the run out.. did the UPS guy toss it over the fence... or was the shipping box damaged from the fedex free-throw contest. any burrs on the case halves when you assembled it??this is a LONG LONG Shot.. is there any chance the ring gear got bent? from an accident or case failure.. too much horse power during application of power.. when the side bearings were pressed on.. who did it.. was the case sides split and the back side supported properly when the bearings were pressed on.. or the bearings were pressed on with the case assembled where the sides of the case might have been distorted from excessive bearing installation pressure???
the unit arrived well packed and visually looked perfect.Bearings installed no problems. Runout checked on back of ring gear while rotating in carrier.Good news...I pulled the ring gear off (zero runout). Hat had over 0.20 runout. Methodically warmed the hat (inside car in direct sunlight 100 degree outside, needed gloves to handle) and torqued starting with the 'high' spots. After messing around for 4 hours finally got the runout down to .003.Guess the forged Currie unit is not as strong as one would be led to believe. will warm up the unit and let it sit for 48 hours and then check runout and check torque again. Hopefully all will be good and won't lose any more time on this...BTW... Currie did finally call and occasionally have had units in the past that displayed high runout. Were willing to RMA the unit but, was halfway through straighening it at the time.....I read that some of the FR units required some grinding down of the carrier case....was not into that so bypassed Ford Perf all together.Thanks for the link...if things go sideways again, will just pick up the unit off ebay...Thanks,HTP
wow...this really needs a set of blue prints and a CMM to see where the part is bent..i ran across this measured drawing.. at least some of the measurements..
