A couple questions about my Shaker 500

Since we are talking about Shaker (500), I hope this isn't a silly question but I can't figure out what the "phone" button does on the radio. I thought it would be bluetooth so I can use cell phone over speakers but I can't figure it out and manual doesn't help much.

JB, the "phone" button simply mutes the audio from the head unit so you can take/make a call. My wife's '02 Explorer Sport Trac actually has the button on the radio as well.

Now, the 2010 Mustang with Sync 2.0 has Bluetooth and when you press the phone button your address book comes up on screen and you can use voice commands to make/take a call...

Maybe it's time for you to buy a new car too! LOL

I have just purchased an 05 GT and am wondering what is the AUX button for? Is there a direct connect somewhere on the head unit for a satellite in?

I just had my Shaker-1000 replaced and I am missing the "Shaker ON/OFF", "SpeedVol", and the "Aux" option is gone from the menu selections.  When I cycle through the "Aux" options, Sat-1 2 & 3 are there, but the "Aux" option is missing.  I had these options before my radio was replaced.  The radio was replaced because the CD Changer was not working.  BTW, I Pulled the radio and there is nothing unplugged.

Jerry, the Aux button is used to access Satellite Radio channels if you have the option, and on newer cars it will allow you to access your mp3 player through the Aux jack in the console.

JL, I would check with your dealer. Two things are possible, either they installed the wrong radio (different trim levels, options, etc.) or the radio needs to be programmed with Ford's WDS or similar device.

I just picked up an 06 Mustang and it didn’t come w/ the owner’s manual so I have to order one.  I saw you responded to someone about the MP3 jack so I went down to my car to have a look and I didn’t see anything.  I opened up the center console and found a cigarette lighter jack and a rectangle hole that peeked through to where the shifter would be.  Am I missing something and what’s that hole?  Thx!!

It turns out that the Aux jack wasn't added to the Mustang's console until 2007, so you missed out by one year. On the '06 and earlier cars the Aux button doesn't do anything but access the Sirius sat service (if equipped). Sorry...

I have an 06 Mustang (loved the change in body style) and after owning it for the last three years I would have to say that the Shaker 500 has got to have the worst disc changer ever created.  Not only does it take what seems like minutes to actually load or eject a cd, the programming logic is awful.  The actual sound in the car is better than average if the cd player can actually read it.  And what whas the deal with putting an MP3 logo on a player that doesn't have an MP3 jack and can't seem to play 10% of the songs I've burnt to a disc, even though every other device that I own can play the same cd's without any problems at all. Not blaming you Mark, and I've finally decided that I'm going to buy a new cd player, it just hadn't been that high on the list the last year and a half if you know what I mean.  It's just frustrating that I spent the extra money in order to get a system that I wouldn't have to upgrade.

I hear ya...

Even the older six-disc in-dash systems from Ford had trouble with media loading, etc. My wife's Explorer Sport Trac had it as an option, but when we ordered the truck we opted for the base "dual media" head unit that has single disc and cassaette in the same unit (we still have lots of tapes and albums!) LOL

When I upgrade her truck some day I'm going to do something like Ford's new Sony systems and get a "jukebox" style with a hard drive in it, double-DIN touch screen, etc. Two guys here have the Pioneer AVIC units and love them. They're nice and would consider them or the Kenwood or Alpine double-DIN setups...

Question.  My shaker 500 stereo 2007 mustang started making a noise like a CD is stuck.  The dealership said I need a new stereo so I purchased a used one.  Now I'm ready to switch them out.  I read your directions on how to remove the unit by removing the console but I was told I will have to bring it in to have it reprogramed with the new unit.  Is that correct?

I am also having a problem with my aux. I have plugged in my ipod and the aux button didn't work. I thought it was my ipod and when i bought a new ipod touch, it also didn't work. I also tried my sister's zune. it didn't work either. Am i doing something wrong because the only thing that shows up are the satellite channels?

I pulled some codes from my Shaker 500 (B1342, B2406) but don't know what they mean or what to do with them. Any suggestions?

Here are the definitions for your DTCs:

B1342
ECU is Faulted CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to Audio Unit in this section. TEST the system for normal operation after the repair.

B2406
Audio Disc CD Player Internal Fault CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC B2406 is retrieved again, REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to Audio Unit in this section. TEST the system for normal operation after the repair.
