Block Swap Issues?

Bought a 64 1/2 with a bad 66 / 289 block.  Will i be able to drop in a 72 / 302 block and just bolt everything back up or will i have to change / upgrade some parts?  This is all new to me.....thanks.

are they both 6 bolt bell housing blocks???

then almost everything will bolt on..

some of the other forum members will fill you in on the small details i hope..

Around 1969, Ford changed to a different clutch system for standard trans. Automatics were not effected. Also, early small blocks had 3 bolt mounting for crankshaft pulleys and dampener, while later ones had 4 bolts. They don't mix and match. Try to get all the accessories with the later engine.

also check the later 302 blocks do not have a boss on the back of the block for the Z bar to mount, there is a kit to put that mount on the block though.
